Lela Burkhalter
GLEN ALLAN — Graveside services for Lela Frances Briggs Burkhalter, 80, of Glen Allan, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at County Line Cemetery. A retired farmer’s wife, business owner and mother, she passed away Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2019, at her home with family. Arrangements are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.
She was born Oct. 24, 1938, the daughter of James Monroe and Althea Briggs. Lela graduated from Glen Allan High School and was a member of Lake Washington First Baptist Church. She and her husband, Jackie, were lifelong farmers and owned a local hardware and auto/ag business for 25 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jackie C. Burkhalter Sr.; four brothers, Percy Briggs, Clarence Briggs, Odell Briggss and Gerald Briggs; and four sisters, Jean Triplett, Dorothy Tanner, Rae Boler and Dewell Crawford.
She is survived by her son, Jack Burkhalter Jr., of Glen Allan; and daughter, Michele Burkhalter (Thomas) Everitt, of Greenville.
There will be a visitation from 9:30-11 a.m Thursday, Oct. 24, at Lake Washington First Baptist Church. Family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
