Phillip McDade
LAUREL — Phillip Owen McDade was born in Laurel, to Bryce Crawford McDade and Juanita Phillips McDade on Nov. 22, 1945. He passed from this life on Friday, July 30, 2021, at the Methodist Hospital in Olive Branch.
He graduated from Laurel High School in 1963 and attended Belhaven University in Jackson. Afterward, he attended Delta State University graduating on June 1, 1969, with a Bachelor of Science in business administration.
Phillip was first employed at Commercial Credit in Greenville in the loan department. Later, he joined Deposit Guaranty National Bank, formerly known as Greenville Bank, in 1972 in the loan area and was promoted to Installment Loan Officer in 1973. He was promoted to Assistant Vice President in 1976. He had worked with Greenville Community Fund, was a member of the Board of Directors of the Merchants Credit Bureau and a member of the Greenville Chamber of Commerce.
As his interest changed, he took a position as a car salesman at Terracina Motor Company. In 1987, he joined the sales team at England Motor Company, working as Sales Manager for many years, making several memorable commercials during that time.
During retirement, Phil loved to fish and did so as often as he could, bringing many fish home to be cleaned. Phil’s favorite sport was baseball and was an extremely talented left-handed pitcher at Laurel High School. He was sought after by professional recruiters but chose to go to college instead.
On Feb. 3, 1968, Phil married Herma Dell Wells, of Drew. They were married for 53 years. Of this union, a daughter, Jo Ann, was on Jan. 14, 1976, who passed away shortly after birth. Also preceding him in death were his parents, Bryce and Juanita McDade; and his brother-in-law, Boyd Wells, of Southhaven.
Phil is survived by his wife, Dell. He also leaves behind two special cousins, Evelyn Roughton, of Indianola, and Wanda Adams, of Birmingham, AL; and a brother-in-law, Bob Wells, of Fort Worth, TX.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at Cornerstone Baptist Church, Greenville, with Dr. Jack Manor and Dr. Bruce Silk officiating. Burial will follow in Indianola City Cemetery. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
