GREENVILLE, Mississippi - Funeral Services for Peter “Pete” Thomas Cora, 62 years old of Greenville, who passed away at his home in Greenville, on January 30, 2026, after a multiyear battle with cancer, was held at Mortimer Funeral Home on Tuesday February 3, 2026 at 11 am. Visitation was at 10 a.m.
Brother Arthur Scott of Temple Baptist Church officiated. Burial was at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Greenville.
Pallbearers were Alan Hodges, Burney Boney, Charlie Jennings, Keith Kendall, Bobby Burton, Jerry Kattawar Jr., Timothy Stone and Seth Spratlin. Honorary pall bearers were Claude Renfroe, Daryl Stapp, David Sykes, Terry Bates, Buddy Lepri, and Mike Henry.
Pete was born in Greenville on April 23, 1963, the son of George Lamar Cora and Rutha Inez Hill Cora. He attended and graduated from Greenville High School in 1981.
Pete worked as a route salesman for Budweiser, Hostess, Pepsi Co., and most recently Coca-Cola /Clark Beverage.
Pete was a self-taught guitarist and avid outdoorsman. He had a love for blues music and greater love for game and wildlife.
As a hunter, he was a life-time member of Lake Lee Hunting Club, of which his father, George, was a founding member. Each November, Pete reveled in joining his cousins, the Kattawars, for their annual family Thanksgiving hunt and competition in North Mississippi. His cousins, in his memory, mounted Pete’s last trophy deer at the family lodge. His hunting box has also been memorialized.
He also was a long-term member of the Mississippi River Anglers Association, Delta Anglers Bass Club, and Greenville Bassmasters. As a fisherman, he established an exemplary and notorious record. He held numerous, often repeat, individual and team annual club championships and angler tournament championships at Lakes Ferguson, Washington, and Chicot.
In the final days of his fight with cancer, Pete accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Inez.
He is survived by his son, George Christopher “Chris” Cora (Sabrina) and grandson, Jonah Thomas Cora, of Prattville, Alabama; his partner, Nicole Clark of Greenville; his two sisters, Sharon Cora Farish (James) of Indianola and Brenda Cora Stone (Randy) of Greenville. He is also survived by nieces Stephanie Grissette (Eric) of Rogers, Arkansas; Chrissy Farish of Indianola, Stacy Farish Crocker (Michael) of Brandon and nephew Timothy Stone (Michaela) of Leland. He also leaves a host of family, friends, and colleagues to cherish his memory.
