Below is a press release from the Mississippi Department of Transportation:
Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) District 5 maintenance forces are making headway on repairs to a roadway failure that occurred on State Route 427 in Neshoba County after Monday’s severe weather.
Crews have already removed the old pipes and replaced them with new ones. Once complete, crushed stone will be placed at the location. The repair is anticipated to complete next week.
The road failure occurred on State Route 427 between Wilcher Rd. and Sistrunk Ln. just east of Carthage on Monday after a set of overwhelmed pipes undermined the roadway. MDOT maintenance crews quickly responded to the impacted area and shut down the highway to traffic.
“I applaud our district maintenance crews for addressing this section of SR 427 and getting the repair underway so quickly,” said Commissioner Willie Simmons, Central Transportation District. “Please avoid the area and seek an alternate route until the roadway has been repaired and reopened.”
MDOT maintenance crews are well-trained and equipped for responding to severe weather events. By promptly clearing state highways after severe weather, these maintenance crews contribute to the overall recovery and resilience of the affected communities.
During severe weather, MDOT crews monitor and respond to issues that arise on state roadways. It is important for Mississippians to be able to receive severe weather alerts in multiple forms. MDOT encourages the public to utilize resources such as MDOTTraffic.com and to follow @MississippiDOT on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube for traffic and weather-related updates.
