LELAND, Mississippi - With heavy hearts and deep love, we announce the passing of Ray Anthony Rainey, 54, of Leland, Mississippi, who entered eternal rest on October 5, 2025.
A 1990 graduate of Leland High School, Ray was a standout athlete, known especially for his talent on the football field. His commitment to excellence, teamwork, and leadership followed him throughout life. He went on to serve briefly in the United States Marine Corps.
Ray will be remembered most for his charming personality, impeccable style, and a laugh that could light up any room. He had a remarkable ability to connect with people, and his presence was a gift to those lucky enough to know him. Whether swapping stories, sharing laughter, or offering a helping hand, Ray's spirit was full of warmth.
He is now joyfully reunited with his loved ones who preceded him in death: his father; James L. Rainey Sr., his brother; Craig B. Rainey Sr., and his nephew; Miguel Patterson.
Ray’s memory lives on through those he loved deeply and who will carry his legacy forward: his daughter; Aaliyah, his mother; Jessie, his brothers; James, Kenneth, and Romall, his sisters; Phyllis and Carlo, and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who affectionately knew him as “Uncle Ray.”
Though his time with us was far too brief, his impact was everlasting. Ray’s life was filled with strength, love, and laughter. He will be forever cherished and missed.
Until we meet again, fly high and rest easy. We love you!
“To live in the hearts of those we love is never to die.”
Memorial Service Details will be shared privately with close family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Ray’s memory, reflecting the spirit he carried throughout his life.
