Gladyce Hardy
GREENVILLE — Gladyce Marie Jackson Hardy, of Greenville, died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019. She was born Oct. 23, 1933, to the late George Jackson Sr. and Willie Louise Fagins Beard.
Graduating from Coleman High School in 1951, she earned her Bachelor of Science in elementary education in 1955 from Jackson State University. She later completed her Master’s degree in elementary education from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. She taught her first year as a teacher at O’Bannon Elementary School, then transferred to the Greenville Public School District, retiring in 1987, with the majority of her career at Carrie Stern Elementary School. After her retirement, she later returned to the school district to support the shortage of elementary educators by working as a substitute teacher.
She and her late husband, George Gray Hardy, were active members of the Greenville Travel Club in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
A faithful communicant of Sacred Heath Catholic Church, she volunteered in several capacities and served as a member of the Angels of Mercy for many years.
Gladyce is survived by the Hardy (Colorado and South Carolina), Jackson, Jackson-Williams (Southaven), Barnes, McGlothin (Georgia), Gales, Hughes and Young (Greenville) families; in addition to close relationships with the Mack families and Mrs. Jaqueline Davis.
