COLUMN — Head coach Derrick Hooker and his state 1A runner up Simmons Blue Devils had to take perhaps the longest and most heartbreaking bus rides of their lives after falling 21-20 to Baldwyn in the state championship. Their magical season ended as they finished with a 13-1 decisively defeating opponents along the way.

Simmons leads Baldwyn 12-0 at halftime of state championship

The Simmons Blue Devils take a 12-0 lead against Baldwin into halftime of the MHSAA State Championship game in Hattiesburg on Friday night .

The Blue Devils got their first score when Jamarion Lundy returned a blocked punt by Kamaal Williams into the endzone with 6:59 left in the half.
