The O’Bannon High School football team’s 26-14 loss to Coahoma County on Friday night was a tale of what might have been.
The Greenwaves made plenty of big plays in the game that dropped their record to 2-2, but the team also let a couple of plays slip through their hands.
“We dropped two touchdown passes, and we had three costly turnovers which you can’t afford if you want to win the game,” O’Bannon head coach Lynn Lang said.
The Coahoma County Panthers opened up an early 12-0 lead after blocking a punt on the Greenwaves opening drive and returning it into the endzone. Coahoma County quarterback Zechariah Smith then threw a 10-yard pass into the endzone to put the Panthers up 12-0.
But, the Greenwaves would close the gap in the second quarter when Jamychael Williams ran in a 45-yard touchdown to make the score 12-6 with 9:26 until halftime.
O’Bannon’s Zacorin Benson then recovered a Panthers’ fumble. But Smith would run in a 12-yard run for Coahoma County right before halftime to put the Panthers up 20-6 at the break.
The Greenwaves travel to MS Palmer (1-2) on Friday night. Coahoma County (2-2) hosts Simmons (4-0)
“We are going to clean things up so we can seize the moment,” Coach Lang said.
