Shel Alverson came up big on the mound and at the plate on Thursday to help lead his Pirates to a 10-8 victory over J&L Fish Farms in 9-10 year-old baseball at the Delta Sportsplex.
Alverson struck out six batters in his complete game victory, and also drove in the final two runs with a big hit.
Walker Ellis, Walker Simpson, Kayne Blalack and Marlin Marble also had big hits for the Pirates.
Meanwhile, J&L pitcher Bryce Poole struck out six batters, and J.D. Oswalt struck out two batters. Poole and J&L third baseman Jayson Moore also had an RBI in the game.
Cardinals 11, Braves 9 (7/8 year old coach pitch)
George Stock drove in the winning run in the top of the fourth inning to help propel the Cardinals to victory.
Carpenter Henry added the 11th run in the top of the fifth inning.
Easton Selby (short stop), Easton Orr (second base), and Javeon Easley (pitcher) had a great defensive game.
And at first base, Massey McPherson caught every ball thrown his way which was greatly needed in such a tight baseball game.
Farm Bureau Flames 7, Slammers 6 (9/10 year old softball)
Sandy Dominguez pitched two innings and struck out five batters, and Gracie Rainwater chipped in by striking out one batter in an inning of work.
