There’s a different vibe, a higher expectation and buzz around Greenville High School Hornet football this season. Part of the new swag is the hiring of Hornets native son Quintarus McCray as head coach. The other is the renewed energy and effort of the Hornets Booster Club.
“We’re asking the community to get involved and show their support by purchasing one of our Hornet Nation T Shirts,” said Quincy Phillips, President of the Greenville Weston Booster Club. “There will be an on field demonstration at 6:15 before this Friday’s home game where we are asking those who purchased the Hornet Nation T-shirt to touch a Hornet player as a symbol of how we are bringing community back into athletics.”
McCray echoed Phillips’s words. “We invite the community to be a positive influence on our team,” McCray said. “If you have a story to tell, an experience to share or some knowledge to impart, we want you to stop by and join the effort to keep these young men focused on something positive and offset some of the things that they see going on around them.”
The T-shirts are available is sizes small to extra large at $12 each. There will be a raffle for a chance to win a free T shirt.
Other items such as Hornet towels and wrist bands are also available. Booster club memberships are $25 and businesses can have there banners displayed at Kerg Field throughout the season for $250.
As the momentum builds in town around the up and coming Hornets, McCray said that he appreciates the support and that “the numbers in the stands are up and everybody can expect a tough, physical offense and defense where we’ll play smash mouth football and put the ball in the air when the opportunity comes.” Phillips encouraged the public to continue to turn out in large numbers week after week and to “ help build morale and generate revenue for the team.”
