Deer Creek School senior Jarod Satterfield, the Planters Bank Player of the Week, is a player who always puts his team first.
In week two of the season, the Warriors needed a quarterback after Ethan Allegrezza injured his hand, and Satterfield immediately said he was willing to do the job.
“He just said he would come in and do the best that he could,” Deer Creek coach Benny McLendon said. “That is the type of kid Jarod is. He is willing to do whatever we ask him to do. We always know that he is going to play hard and do his best.”
Satterfield had another fine performance last Friday night in the Warriors’ 28-0 road victory against Kemper Academy. Satterfield rushed for two touchdowns and 185 yards in the Deer Creek victory. He also threw a touchdown.
With Friday’s win, Deer Creek improved its record to 6-4 and has already locked up a spot in the MAIS Class 1A state playoffs. The Warriors are scheduled to complete their regular season this Friday on the road against Calhoun Academy. If Deer Creek wins Friday, the Warriors will be the No. 7 seed in the playoffs. If the Warriors lose Friday, they will be the No. 8 seed.
Coach McLendon said Satterfield has improved each game behind center this season. In fact, Satterfield’s improved play is a big reason why the Warriors have won three of their last four games.
Two weeks ago Satterfiled rushed for three touchdowns to help lead the Deer Creek School Warriors to a 54-14 victory over North Sunflower Academy.
It was part of a total team effort, Coach McLendon said.
Players like Noah Allegrezza, Hayes Azlin, Brandon Hunter have all stepped up their games as well. And, although still not 100 percent recovered from his hand injury, Ethan Allegrezza has also been helping out on both sides of the ball.
“The kids are all working harder and trying to get better, and that is the most important thing,” Coach McLendon said.
