The record book will say that the Pasquale’s Delta Blues defeated the Mainstream Muffler Diamonds 9-6 on Tuesday night at the Delta Sportsplex, but what the record book will not say is how each team played extremely hard and how players on both teams came up big when their teams needed them.
Brad Andrews, who helps coach the Delta Blues, said he has been pleased with the effort of his team all season.
“They are just learning how to play softball, and we see them improving each week,” he said.
Andrews should understand what makes a great softball player since he is the coach of the Riverside High School girls softball. Perhaps, one day some of these girls will play at the high school level.
Some of the players who came up big for the Delta Blues included Ruby Love Poole, who drove in two runs, and Gracie Rainwater, who had a big run-scoring hit.
In the final inning, Jalynn Andrews and Lilly Flowers also drove home key runs.
For the Diamonds, Kay Thigpen, Susannah Swindle and Molli Ray scored the first runs for their team, which were aided by a double by Annie Cingolani. Reed Hooker, who played first base, also hit a huge run-scoring double for her team.
Diamonds coach P.J. Ray said he was proud of how hard his team played..
“They play fine, and they do everything well,” Ray said. “They play hard and they try hard.”
