Greenville High School senior Morgan Green was just about perfect Thursday night as he scored 41 points in his Hornets’ 85-65 home victory over Humphreys County.
Green made 12 of his 13 shots from the field and 16 of his 18 free throw attempts.
“Morgan was lights out,” Greenville Coach Delmar Sprouse said. “He has really been playing well. I told him a few weeks ago to work on his free throw shooting, and he did it and the results are already beginning to show.”
Green also registered four assists and two steals in the game. His 41 points were the most scored by a Greenville player in at least 10 years, Coach Sprouse said.
The game between the Hornets and Humprheys County was originally scheduled for Tuesday but was moved to Thursday because of Tuesday’s wintry conditions. The victory improves Greenville’s record to 4-6 and snaps a two-game losing skid.
All three of Greenville’s remaining games in 2019 are on the road, including the Hornets’ game at Cleveland Central which is scheduled for Friday night. The Hornets’ next home game is scheduled for January 7 against Germantown.
Junior Kentrell Carter scored 12 points and had six rebounds for Greenville. JeQuann Roberson scored nine points and grabbed 15 rebounds. Justin Wright scored eight points, and Tre’onte Hall scored seven points.
Coach Sprouse said he hopes his team can build on the momentum it gained Thursday night.
“This team has been sort of a Jeckyll and Hyde team so far this season, and I hope this is the beginning of something.”
Honeybees move to 10-0
Greenville High junior Jakayla Williams scored a team-high 22 points to lead the Honeybees to an 80-38 home victory over Humphreys County Thursday night.
Williams made nine of her 10 shots from the field.
Senior Quintaria McCray made nine of her 11 shots from the field and finished the game with 19 points and eight rebounds.
Greenville senior Jeanee Anderson score 15 points and delivered 11 assists. Senior Aaliyah Parker had six points and nine rebounds. Seniors Kylian Granger and Lazericka Rhodes scored eight points.
