BATESVILLE— The Greenville High School boys basketball team wrapped up second place in its district with a 73-52 road victory over South Panola Friday night.
The Hornets (10-12) finished 4-2 in the district (Class 6A District 4) and will take on third-seeded Germantown when the district tournament begins next week in Starkville. Top-seeded Starkville high will play South Panola.
Senior Morgan Green made 13 of his 19 free throw attempts to lead the Hornets with 23 points Friday. Junior Jequann Roberson scored 19 points and had 15 rebounds.
The Hornets jumped out to a 21-9 lead at the end of the first quarter and never trailed the rest of the game.
“We played really well, and it was good to see,” Greenville coach Delmar Sprouse said. “We have shown the ability to beat good teams when we play team ball.”
Greenville junior Tre’onte Hall scored 11 points, and had six rebounds, two assists and three steals. Junior Dekobe Lewis scored eight points and had five rebounds. Sophomore Aaron Davenport and Kentrell Carter both scored four points.
The Hornets are scheduled to finish their regular season Tuesday night against Holmes Central in a non-district game.
Coach Sprouse said the players on his team will use the week off after Tuesday’s game to get themselves healthy.
“After Tuesday’s game we are going to use the whole week to recover,” Coach Sprouse said.
