The Greenville Hornets varsity football team won their first game of the season Friday night with a resounding second half effort to defeat visiting Ruleville 23-6.
The Hornets (1-3) led Friday’s game 3-0 at halftime but came out in the second half and dominated the game on both sides of the ball. Quarterbacks Kaleb Titus and Jaterius Jones both scored rushing touchdowns in the second half. And Kenyon Malone put the game away after he sacked the Ruleville quarterback and recovered the fumble and put it in the endzone for the Hornets final score.
“This victory felt really good,” Greenville head coach George Richardson said. “The players came together and worked hard all week during practice. “I am extremely proud of these kids. This win is great for our morale. It showed the kids that their resilience has paid off.”
Coach Richardson praised both his offense and his defense, especially his defensive line.
Greenvile Hornets Zachariah Addison and Keontay Winder both had interceptions in the second half.
Ruleville fell to 0-4.
Greenville will look to earn its second win of the season next Friday when it travels to Humprheys County.
