BATESVILLE — The Irish victory was still in doubt until St. Joseph senior star Trey Benson broke away for a 92-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter.
“We scored a whole bunch of touchdowns, and I think that Trey and Dillon (Johnson) may have broken some records. We are going to have to go back to the tape and add up all the stats,” St. Joseph coach John Baker said.
St. Joe (5-0), a Class 3A School, gave Class 4A North Delta its first loss of the season.
“We showed that we have a lot of heart, and when the game got close the senior leaders on our team rose up and made some great plays for us,” Baker said.
St. Joseph punted just one time in the game.
Next Friday the Irish, who have won two straight state championships, look to remain undefeated when they host Central Hinds Academy.

ARCOLA — In a seesaw affair, the Warriors spotted Columbus Christian the first 24 points of the game, but Deer Creek stormed back to score the next 22 points.
But, the Rams pulled the game away by outscoring Deer Creek 20-8 in the fourth quarter.
“We just got behind and we were not prepared to play,” Deer Creek coach Benny McLendon said. “We gave up those 24 points and had to battle the rest of the night.”
Despite the loss, Coach McLendon said many of his players played well, including Jarod Satterfield, Judd Cooper and Noah Allegrezza.
Next Friday Deer Creek is scheduled to travel to Helena, Arkansas to take on Desoto High School.
