Planters Bank Player of the Week Mary Glenn Hooker is on a torrid pace solidifying herself as one of the area’s best scorers and rising stars.
On Jan. 25, the Washington School Lady Generals sophomore shooting guard scored 25 points to lead all scores with 25 points, demonstrating a beautiful feathery three-point shot and ability to get to the basket off the bounce.
Hooker’s coach Yvette McPherson remarked, “She understands how to balance her three-point shooting with getting to the basket when teams go to zone defenses.”
In the two games prior to Tuesday night, Hooker dropped 21 and 22 points against Starkville Academy and Pillow Academy, respectively in back-to-back conference games.
Hooker, just a sophomore, is developing into a great decision maker, passer and defender for the Lady Generals which bodes well for the future. Ironically, a player who is beginning to express her talent is all phases of the game, says that English is her favorite subject. Washington School basketball still has the rest of this season and the next two full seasons to build around a true cornerstone of the program.
“My favorite thing to do away from school is hangout with my friends, practice sports, shop and workout,” Hooker said. “I don’t know my plans for college or career yet.”
