The visiting Class 4A St. Joseph Fighting Irish (1-1) stayed with the Class 6A Jackson Prep (3-0) Patriots for much of the game, but in the end, the Patriots’ numbers proved to be too much.
Jackson Prep had 83 players dress out for the game Friday night compared to the Fighting Irish’s 27 players.
The Irish, however, came out of the gates unintimidated. It took St. Joseph just four plays to score the game’s first touchdown when Irish quarterback CJ Moore connected on a 40-yard pass to receiver Christian Foster. Kye Nelson scored St. Joe’s other touchdown with a run in the third quarter.
“It is just hard when they dress out so many more players than we do,” St. Joseph coach John Baker said. “The score is not indicative on how close of a game this was. We did a good job of shutting down their run, but they are a good team and they played well.”
