St. Joseph Catholic School defensive end Alex Foster verbally committed to Baylor University last week because he said it was the place where he felt the most comfortable and most wanted.
“The coaching staff at Baylor have been really great to me. They made me feel the most needed and the most wanted. They never stopped contacting me and always told me I was No. 1 on their list,” Foster said.
Foster, who will be a senior on the St. Joseph football team this upcoming season, will be having a homecoming, of sorts, when he plays college ball for the Bears in Waco, Texas in a year. Before moving back to Greenville two years ago, Foster spent his eighth grade and ninth grade playing football in Texas.
Foster mostly plays on the strong side of the defense. His main strength is in stopping the run, but he can chase down the quarterback when necessary.
Last season, Foster helped lead St. Joseph to the state championship trophy. He said he hopes to lead the Irish to another state championship this year.
“I love playing for St. Joseph. The people here are so nice and our coaches are really cool,” he said.
Like his success on the playing field, Foster’s success in being recruited also required hard work, day in and day out. Foster had scholarships offers from many schools throughout the region, including Mississippi State and Southern Miss.
“After my 11th grade year, I have been marketing myself and sending my film out every day, mostly Twitter. It has something I have doing all the time to get my name out to the right teams and coaches. I have spent many hours posting clips of my film.”
