A chance to see some of the community’s favorite “neighborhood heroes” out of uniform with their best handles and ball skills on display isn’t one that comes along often.
However, kicking off around noon, Sunday at Elwyn Ward Recreational Center, will be the First Annual Public Safety All-Star Day presented by Greenville Parks and Recreation.
At the cost of $3 per person for entry, attendees will not only be able to witness a basketball tournament featuring members of local law enforcement in Washington County, but a 3-point pressure event, free throw shooting contest and half court challenge.
In addition, concessions will be sold and there will be prizes given away for the duration of All-Star Day.
“It’s one of our fundraisers. We’re going to have the police departments, fire departments and sheriff departments from all over Washington County participating,” said Parks and Recreation director Corey Holmes. “We’re going to take those funds we raise and put them back into our recreational facilities as far as upgrades.”
Holmes publicly thanked Fire Chief Ruben Brown and the Greenville Fire Department personnel for assisting with the improvements to the City of Greenville’s recreational facilities.
“We painted all three of our parks and recreation centers. We put a total of 105 gallons of paints on the walls of our recreation centers including Rounds, Ward’s and Amy Covington,” he shared, noting the new colors are green and white.
This event is just the first of several to come in an effort engage the community’s youth and generate funds to improve the City of Greenville and its potential in all aspects.
