WEBB — Simmons High School running back Vontrez Rush scored all three touchdowns for the Blue Devils in their 22-0 shutout road victory over West Tallahatchie Friday.
The victory for the Blue Devils improved their record to 5-5, and Simmons can earn a trip to the state MHSAA Class 1A playoffs if they defeat West Bolivar next Friday in their final game of the regular season. The victory Friday snapped a three-game losing skid for the young Blue Devil squad, who are starting many underclassmen.
“This is a huge win not just for us, but for the community,” Simmons head coach Timothy Johnson said.
Rush, a sophomore, had one of his best games of the season, and Coach Johnson said it he is improving because of his hard work and his attention to detail.
“Vontrez is seeing the holes well, and he is doing a great job for us,” Coach Johnson said.
