LaQuesha Watkins has been appointed interim Washington County’s coroner.
Watkins, age 34, is a native of Washington County. Reared and currently residing in Greenville, Watkins has served as a Washington County Deputy Coroner for the past three years.
Due to the recent retirement of long-standing coroner, Methel Johnson, Watkins was appointed Coroner of Washington County by the Washington County Board of Supervisors effective July 1, 2025.
A product of the Greenville Public School District, Watkins attended Finch Henry Job Corps, where she received her certification in Nursing Assistant and Professional Customer Service. She possesses a Social Science Degree, from Mississippi Delta Community College. She also has a Mortuary Science Degree with embalmer certification from Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Services-Atlanta, Georgia, where she received a Restorative Art and Reconstruction Award.
Watkins serves as a greeter in her local church, Greater Destiny Fellowship Church of Greenville, where she is also active in the Women’s Ministry and Outreach Department. She is a member of the Mississippi Coroners Association, Southern Rural Black Women’s Initiative, The Unita Blackwell Young Leadership Institute and Adah Chapter #69- Order of Eastern Star- Greenville, where she serves as treasurer. She has more than 8 years of experience in the death care industry, and she currently holds a certification in death investigation and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome- SUDI and the Mississippi Division of the International Association for Identification.
