A Florida man has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault for shooting a Greenwood man in the parking lot of the Greenville Mall tonight.
At 6:50 p.m. tonight, officers with the Greenville Police Department were dispatched to the 1600 block of Highway 1 South in reference to a shot person who was found between McDonald's and the carnival.
“Upon arrival, they located the victim and confirmed he had been shot,” said Assistant Police Chief Michael Merchant, noting he was shot in the lower thigh of his leg.
Emergency medical personnel responded and transported the victim, a 32-year-old black male, to Delta Health-The Medical Center, where he was shortly after flown to another hospital. As of Friday evening, the victim was listed in stable, but critical, condition.
According to Merchant, the victim and 62-year-old black male Leroy Williams Davis, of Zephyrhills, Florida, had a disagreement that led to the shooting.
“Preliminary investigation reveals the incident started about a disagreement between the two,” Merchant said.
Davis has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault. He does not have a bond at this time.
This is an active investigation and other charges may follow.
