The eighth annual Washington County Economic Alliance Golf & Gathering event is set for Tuesday, Sept. 17 at the Greenville Golf & Country Club, and the marshmallow drive has become one of the most popular recent editions to the event.
“It takes some finesse,” Washington County Economic Alliance Executive Director Will Coppage said. “You have to hit it just right because if you hit it too hard the marshmallow will explode.”
The marshmallow drive is just one of several fun events scheduled at this year’s event. The popular “Break the Glass” contest is back as well. In this event, golfers will have a shot at making a “break shot” by attempting to smash a 2-by-2 pane of glass with a single shot. Other events include a putting competition and a hole-in-one contest.
Registration to participate in the Golf & Gathering Event will begin promptly at 11 a.m., and those who attend will tee off at 12:30 p.m.
The highlight of the event, of course, is the three-person golf scramble. Three-person teams cost $350, and the individual players cost $125. Registration includes a golf cart, hors d’oeuvres and two drink tickets per golfer. Cocktails and gathering portion, which starts at 5 p.m.
This year, the Event Sponsors are Delta Regional Medical Center, Exxon/Lipscomb Oil, and Oakes Chevrolet/Oakes Toyota, which “we are ecstatic for there support,” Coppage said. “We could not do, what we do without these employers. They are pillars in our community.”
The Golf and Gathering Event allows participants to network with other Chamber businesses and elected officials.
“This is another great opportunity to support our community as well as the WCEA and the Chamber,” said Kay Sipes, the Washington County Economic Alliance Chamber Director. “Our business is to help grow your businesses.”
