An established educator passionate about inovating methods to provide higher education oppertunities to students is bringing his vision to the role of site coordinator with Mississippi Valley State University at Greenville Higher Education Center.
Dr. Arthur Cartlidge, a Greenville native, was named to the position Tuesday.
Cartlidge has served as a classroom teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, director of federal programs, deputy superintendent and superintendent. He has more than 50 years of experience in education.
“I was personally happy to hear that he was appointed to that position,” said Willie Sullivan, president of MVSU’s Washington County Alumni Association. “He is a retired superintendent and I’m glad to see that he is giving back to MVSU.”
Cartlidge expresses the need for change at the GHEC site and he is willing to be that change.
“We are the process of restoring the GHEC site to its original goal of being an exemplary source of higher education for the citizens of Greenville and surrounding communities,” Cartlidge said. “My job is to recruit students and faculty and manage the instructional activities at the site. I also welcome and assist students when they visit or contact the GHEC office and complete an administrative task that supports teachers and students in their learning experiences. One of my key tasks is to assist the associate vice president of academic affairs with all evening administrative responsibilities.”
Cartlidge’s wife, Shirley Cartlidge, is a trustee for Greenville Public School District, and she believes her husband will be a positive influence.
“I think he will be a positive influence and is a very dedicated person to education,” Shirley said. “I know that if it needs to be done, he will get the job done with ease.”
Cartlidge received his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from MVSU, his masters and specialist degree in educational leadership and supervision from Delta State University and his doctorate in education from Mississippi State University.
“I’m grateful and excited about the opportunity to serve MVSU at the GHEC site,” Cartlidge said.
