Three school districts have scheduled public meetings to discuss revenue and needs of the district with tax payers.
Two districts, Greenville nad Hollandale, are proposing to changes to ad volorum taxes. A bond issue is being considered by the Leland School District.
Ad valorem taxes are paid on homes, automobile tags, business fixtures and equipment and rental real property.
Leland School District
Leland School District is hosting a Town Hall meeting about bond issues held Monday, June 3 at Leland High Auditorium at 6 p.m.
District officials said the meeting is to discuss renovations to the schools and upgrading the athletic field.
To accomplish the renovations and proposed changes to the athletic felid, a bond is being considered.
If the bond is approved projects may include replacing the old boiler heating system from the high school, replacing flooring in schools, cooling systems, upgrading restrooms in elementary and preschools, creating a science lab for elementary, physical education space for elementary, roofing for high school and elementary, HVAC, upgrade high school entrance, renovations to high school athletics complex ( football field) and new intercom systems at all schools.
“I really need the community to support the bond for our students which will help the schools for many years to come,” said Rev. Jessie King, superintendent. “This initiative is for our students who deserves a quality educational environment and for the advancement of the Leland community as a potential community to relocate. Leland’s future will outgrow it present population and the school system must be ready for the growth.”
Greenville Public School District
The Greenville Public School District will hold a public hearing Tuesday, June 11at 5 p.m. at Manning Curriculum Complex and will discuss a proposed ad valorum tax.
The Greenville Public School District is now operating with a projected total budget revenue of $45,635,483. Of that amount, (23 %) or $10,382, 117 of such revenue is obtained through ad valorem taxes. For next fiscal year, the proposed budget has total projected revenue of $43,679,345. Of that amount, (24 %) or $10,488,736 is proposed to be financed through a total ad valorem tax levy.
For the next fiscal year, the proposed increase in ad valorem tax effort by Greenville Public School District may result in the ad valorem tax millage rate.
Any citizen of Greenville Public School District is invited to attend this public hearing on the proposed ad valorem tax effort and will be allowed to speak for a reasonable amount of time and offer tangible evidence before any vote is taken.
Hollandale School District
The Hollandale School District will hold a public hearing on its proposed school district budget for fiscal year 2019-2020 on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at 4:30 p.m., 101 Washington Avenue, Hollandale, in the Office of the Superintendent.
At this meeting, a proposed ad valorem tax effort increase shall be considered.The Hollandale School District is now operating with a projected total budget revenue of $8,424,173.00. Of that amount, 15.99 percent or $1,347,865 of such revenue is obtained through ad valorem taxes. For the next fiscal year, the proposed budget has total projected revenue of $8,559,672.
Of that amount, 16.24 percent or $1, 389, 816 is proposed to be financed through a total ad valorem tax levy. For the next fiscal year, the proposed increase in ad valorem tax effort by Hollandale School District may result in an increase in the ad valorem tax millage rate.
Any citizen of Hollandale School District is invited to attend this public hearing on the proposed ad valorem effort, and will be allowed to speak for a reasonable amount of time and offer tangible evidence before any vote is taken.
