One local artist is gearing up for a highly anticipated exhibit featuring her paintings for the first time this week.
The Greenville Arts Council is hosting an opening reception this week for the exhibit titled, “Jean Nimrod: A Delta Retrospective.”
The exhibit will feature decades of several paintings all completed by local artist Jean Nimrod at her Sushan Studio.
Greenville Arts Council Executive Director Eleanor Wright said she wanted to do this show because Nimrod is a renowned artist who has been very prolific and has been around for a long time.
A painter for more than 45 years, Nimrod has sold some of her pieces over the years, and most of the paintings at this exhibit will be for sale.
“It is her first show as a single artist and usually she shows with other people such as the Delta Arts Association,” Wright said.
This art exhibit was curated by fellow local artist Melanie Mitchell Tucker and is being sponsored by local residents Howard and Carol Brent.
Nimrod said it was an honor to be chosen for an exhibit featuring her vibrant paintings, which depict many landscapes of areas she has traveled to throughout Mississippi.
“I’m just excited that someone offered to have it,” Nimrod said.
The reception will take place from 5-7 p.m. Friday at E.E. Bass Cultural Arts Center’s Roger Malkin Gallery, 323 S. Main St., and will remain on display through Oct. 24.
