The Greenville Public School District hosted their annual convocation Thursday at the Washington County Convention Center.
The theme of this year’s convocation was It’s a New Day at GPSD.
The convention center was filled with staff, faculty, school board members and the administrative team of GPSD, where they focused on each department and their goals for the school year.
Dr. Debra Dace, interim superintendent, and her administrative team reiterated the district’s goals and mission for the upcoming school year.
The goals for the district, Dace said, are improving student achievement; promoting a safe, disciplined, healthy and drug-free school; ensuring efficient and effective use of resources; and improving community trust and district transparency with all stakeholders.
One of the ways to improve those goals, she said, is to focus on the motto for the school year, which is the “Five S movement,” (Safety + Supervision + Success = Student Success).
The vision for the district, which was printed on the pamphlets passed to district’s teachers and staff, is to be “committed to excellence for all and the mission is to provide the opportunity for all to achieve success.”
Dace challenged each staff member to “Get It Done” in reference to ensuring student success in the GPSD.
“After today’s convocation, I look forward to working with the great staff of GPSD and meeting the parents, students and community members as this school year moves forward. It is a new day at GPSD,” she said.
School board president Dr. Loretta Shannon said she looks forward to seeing the upcoming successes of the district.
“I feel we are going to have a great school year and we’re starting off with excitement and passion for doing a great job,” Shannon said. “Team GPSD did a really good job of explaining what to expect this school year and I wish Dr. Dace, the interim superintendent, and her team much success.”
