Riverside freshman volleyball player Kamaya Evans has been named the Planters Bank Player of the Week because of how much she means to her Bulldog team.
Kamaya stands less than five-feet tall, but she plays big all over the court.
“She plays big for someone so small,” said her coach, Markeia Brown. “She is a great setter of the ball, but she also has great hops and can spike the ball really well.”
With the help of Kamaya, the Bulldogs have gotten off to a 2-0 start in district play this year. The goal, said Coach Brown, is to win the district and advance in the state playoffs.”
Kamaya is like many of the players on the Riverside team who are relatively new to the game but have picked it up quickly. This is in large part to how hard the team worked this summer, attending volleyball camps including at Ole Miss and Mississippi State.
The team is also led by the four seniors on the Bulldogs — Sydney Sheppard, Loren Brown, Allie Reed and Ann Hankins.
“What makes this team so special is how coachable they are so it is easy for me to implement new tactics. They are ready to learn.”
