Morgan Neal and Charles Bowman won the Lake Washington, MS Division I tournament.
Hosted by the Greenville – Washington County CVB, anglers competed for $10,000.00. The weigh-in was held downtown at the historical, Hotel 27, 211 S Walnut Str. In Greenville and emceed by Jim Bob Allgood of Redneck Adventures.
The Delta area had cool weather for days before the tournament, turning warm and windy on competition day.
Neal & Bowman weighed in 13.23 pounds to take the top prize. They used a different technique than most other teams. Having seen a lot of anglers using long poles during the Big Mamma event during the previous day and knowing the fish weren’t going to turn down baits. The team decided to cast and try to make the first couple count. Their strategy paid off and they earned $3,600.00.
Second place was the father-son team of William & Eli Garrett. The Garretts were just behind the first-place team weighing in 13.16 pounds. They also won 2nd big fish with a 2.65 lbs crappie, and top adult youth. They earned $1850.00
Mike Jones’ Big Mama crappie/bass tournament was held the day before the NCL event. The Big Mama event raises money for Camp Looking Glass. In a very special moment, the youth was asked what he would do with that much money and said he was donating to Camp Looking Glass to help people out.
The father stated, “We have done well at the Big Mama events for a few years and always donate it back. I asked him last night if we win the tournament, what you are going to do with that money. Without hesitation he said, Camp Looking Glass.” Camp Looking Glass is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit community organization that provides recreational activities for people with disabilities in the Greenville area.
Kenny Wray & Alex Cochran took third place with a weight of 12.74 pounds. They weighed in the big fish of the tournament with a 2.90 lb crappie. Earned $1450.00
The team stated their morning started out pretty slow. It was an hour before they caught a tournament fish. Their fish were on the bottom hard to see and they had to slow down. With about 30 minutes left in competition they got a big one in the boat to top off their weight.
Rounding out the top five were, the 4th place team of Mac Mabry & Carl Mangrum with a 11.57 bag earning them $600.00 and the 5th team of Chris Lovelace Mike Parks who weighed in 9.38 lbs. winning $500.00. The tournament paid down the remaining field.
