The O’Bannon Green Waves were shut down in a district match against Northside Gators (Shelby,MS) on Wednesday night. The Gators led the Green Waves for most of the game. The final score 71-21.
Going into the half, the Gators led by more than ten. The Gators were led by guard Jemarius Jackson with a 25-point finish. Jackson capitalized on an and-1 play and a successful free throw followed by a steal and layup just before going into the second half. Green Waves star Chandler Wade answered back quickly with a corner 3-pointer and a soft floater inside of the paint to cut into the lead. Wade carried the Green Waves’ load as his sharp shooting and eager defense allowed him to finish with a double digits in the book, 11 points and numerous assists. Other players that chipped in points were Jamychael Williams, Landyn Winters, Ashton King, and Quindarrius Reed.
The Green Waves are scheduled to play most of their district games in the coming weeks. Head coach Torrione Carter said that moving forward his team will play it one game at a time and focus on their strengths. “Tonight we were out hustled,” said Carter. Carter nevertheless acknowledged Wade who is the backbone of this year’s team. “Chandler is playing “lights out” this year and with a lot of confidence—he never gave up.”
The Green Waves look to get their first district win on Tuesday when they travel to Itta Bena, MS to face Leflore County Tigers (3-12).
