AVON — The Riverside High School volleyball team had its season come to an end last Saturday with a 3-1 loss to New Site in the opening round of the MHSAA Class 2A Playoffs. But, the Lady Bulldogs didn’t go down without a fight.
After dropping the first two sets, Riverside came storming back in the third set with a 25-11 victory. This win was made possible by the fine serving of Jakeria Shaw, Ann Briyle Hankins and Allie Reed.
The Lady Bulldogs and New Site went back and forth in the fourth set, with New Site eventually winning 25-24.
“I am extremely proud of these kids. We are taking progression over perfection. We are going to build on this and only be better for next season,” Riverside head coach Markeia Brown said.
The Lady Bulldogs finished the season with a 16-2 record and were undefeated in their district under second year head coach Markeia Brown.
Coach Brown, a Rosedale native, is in his second season coaching the Lady Bulldog volleyball team. Last season, Coach Brown coached Riverside to a district championship as well and a second round berth in the MHSAA Class 2A State Playoffs. Coach Brown said his team is filled with leaders, like junior Allie Reed, senior Makiya Meads and junior Sydney Sheppeard.
