SHELBY — The Riverside High School girls basketball team overcame all the adversity thrown its way on Thursday night as it defeated North Side 49-42 in the semifinals of the Region 3-2A Basketball Tournament at North Side High School.
The Bulldogs advance to Friday’s night’s championship game against Charleston with a tipoff slated for 7 p.m.
After Riverside starter Karlasia Lewis fouled out of the game in the second quarter, Bulldog coach Daneshea Davis said a number of her players stepped up. Makiya Meads led Riverside with 15 points. Qu’Niya Jackson scored 12 points and Alexandria Johnson scored 10 points.
Coach Davis and her Bulldogs have lost both games they have played this season to Charleston by 13 points and 21 points. But, the Bulldogs know that the postseason is a new season.
“We came into the tournament with an open mind and thinking our record is 0-0. The key for us winning is to do all the small things well like getting back on defense and making the easy layups,” Coach Davis said.
