BATESVILLE — In a dominating defensive effort, the St. Joseph Catholic School football team defeated North Delta Academy 30-2 Friday night.
“Their offense was playing keep-away from us, and we were on defense basically all night long, but our defense stepped up and really played well,” St. Joseph head coach John Baker said.
Baker said defenders Cliff Perry, Jack Hughes and Carson Graham played especially well in the game.
St. Joseph quarterback CJ Moore connected with Donnie Smith for the Irish’s (4-1) first points in the game. On defense, Moore would score on a 40-yard interception return late in the second quarter.
In the second half, Moore threw a 50-yard touchdown pass to Jerrian King and Kye Nelson ran in a 30-yard touchdown for St. Joe’s final two scores.
St. Joseph travels to Winona Academy next week where the the District 2- 4A championship will be on the line.
The Fighting Irish’s Frank Serio also connected on a 44-yard field goal attempt.
