Hollandale native Marcus Lloyd, 48, was killed Friday afternoon as a result of what appeared to be an accident involving county road equipment on Frazier Road near Kennedy Flat Road.
Details surrounding the incident are still being gathered, per the Washington County Sheriff’s Department who is in charge of the investigation.
The county coroner is awaiting the autopsy report to determine an official cause of death.
Lloyd was an employee of the Washington County Road Department for about three years.
“We’re not suspecting any foul play or anything like that,” Sheriff Milton Gaston said of the developing investigation.
Washington County Board of Supervisors President Carl McGee said in regards to the investigation, “With us being a governmental entity, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) said they were not coming in and that they would let the governmental entity handle it. So, we’re trusting in the sheriff’s department to go ahead with the information they have to come up with the answers the family needs and deserves.”
During an impromptu meeting with McGee on Monday, county road department employees took the opportunity to voice their concerns for workplace safety and measures they would like to see put in place to protect workers and prevent any potential for incidents, such as the one involving Lloyd.
McGee said he listened intently to the workers and wanted to make sure they knew their concerns were not only valid, but extremely important to the county.
