Catherine Kirk, a veteran of the Delta Democrat-Times newsroom and product of Greenville High School, will take the lead as the managing editor for the newspaper.
Kirk, also a graduate of Delta State University’s journalism school, has worked at the newspaper since 2015.
“I have fond memories of my late father, Lee Martyn, reading the Delta Democrat-Times and writing letters to the editor. To now serve in the role as managing editor is truly an honor and I hope to make him and the community proud,” she said.
Kirk is an award-winning journalist and serves on the United Way of Washington County Allocations Committee.
She is the wife of Chris, who works for the U.S. Forest Service in Stoneville, and is the mother of two young children, Conner and Laura. Their family also includes their dog, Calvin.
Kirk and her family attend South Main Church of Christ. They enjoy attending shows at Delta Center Stage and the many local festivals throughout the year.
“We are pleased to have Catherine in the role as managing editor,” Jon Alverson, DD-T publisher and editor, said. “I believe it is important to find people who want to call this community home for positions such as these. It’s important someone know the community they plan to report about.”
The DD-T is a Pulitzer Prize winning paper, which is part of Emmerich Newspapers, Inc., a third-generation family owned company with newspapers in Mississippi, Louisiana and Arkansas.
