At Thursday’s Greenville City Council special budget session, different community partners came before the council requesting additional funds for their organization.
The council allowed the representatives from the different organizations to explain how much money they are requesting and why.
Council members heard from the following organizations:
Boys & Girls Club of Washington County: Board member Roscoe Greene, general manager of Harlow’s Casino Resort & Spa, requested $15,000 on behalf of workforce development and general operating expenses for the club.
Families First for Mississippi: Representatives Robert and Patti Coggins requested $10,000 to continue to service the community through their various programs and initiatives.
Greenville Renaissance Scholars: Board President Andrea Fisher requested $25,000 to help with the expenses with their summer camp.
Washington County Library System: Representative Elizabeth Alexander requested $10,000 for the general budget to cover expenses that have increased over the last five years.
Greenville Reflection & Youth Development Museum: Representative Albertha Williams requested between $15,000 and $20,000 to cover the continuous renovations being done to the Weinberg House, where the museum is located.
South Delta Planning & Development District: Executive Director Thomas Goodwin requested between $17,000 and $20,000 to match the nearly $10,000,000 of Aging Funds they receive from the Mississippi Department of Human Services.
Washington County Economic Alliance: Executive Director Will Coppage requested $75,000 for recruiting efforts, marketing of building/sites and community assets and to assist in capacity funding for a Workforce Coordinator.
MS Action for Community Education: Representative Howard Butite requested $25,000 for additional expenses for the 42nd annual Mississippi Blues and Heritage Festival.
Greenville Higher Education Center: Representatives Willie Sullivan and Carlos Brothers requested for advertisement and promotion for GHEC by the city of Greenville.
The council didn’t make any approval decisions regarding the organizations’ requests and will be made at a later budget meeting, City Clerk Amelia Wicks said.
