Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis once said, “If women didn’t exist, all the money in the world would have no meaning.”
While the context of Onassis’ quote might be questionable, this Saturday’s “Money, Purpose, Success” Women’s Entrepreneurship Summit is sure to demonstrate just how meaningful both women and money are.
The “Money, Purpose, Success” summit was started by Higher Purpose Co. more than four years ago to accelerate the success of black female entrepreneurs in Mississippi and across the Mid-South.
“Every year, we try to do it around a different educational site in Mississippi,” Higher Purpose Co.’s Communications & Development Coordinator Jarquita Brown said.
This year’s event will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Greenville Higher Education Center, 2900 Mississippi 1 S. It is a ticketed event, which has already sold out.
Events like MPS bring together a group of black women with one common, yet incredibly necessary, goal to provide women with the tools and resources they need to launch or elevate their business and essentially their communities to the next level.
Higher Purpose Co. knows business ownership is one way families can build generational wealth and it brings together resources and nationally recognized entrepreneurs to help black women entrepreneurs.
“We are excited to announce that over 150 black women will be attending,” Brown said. “This year topped the previous three years as far as attendance.”
Top business leaders from Mississippi, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania and California will provide women of color the tools they need to launch, grow and expand their business.
Terry native Sheena Allen, founder and CEO of Sheena Allen Apps, will be judging a pitch competition in which three women will have three minutes each to pitch the idea for their business or startup and $1,000 to go towards that enterprise.
Hosting the summit is Steve Harvey Morning Show Executive Producer Monica Barnes.
The keynote speaker for Saturday’s summit is Kibi Anderson, president of Red Table Talk, Inc., the company behind the hit show under the same name currently playing on Facebook Watch.
