At Western Line School District’s July 1 school board meeting, Superintendent Lawrence Hudson discussed the renovations being done throughout the district.
Renovations are being done at the restrooms at each school, the three cafeterias in the district and the P.E. lockers at O’Bannon High School.
Renovations of the restrooms and P.E. locker rooms began at the end of May.
Board members said they wanted to upgrade the facilities so the students could have better restroom facilities and better locker rooms for the upcoming athletic season. The decision was made in October 2018 during their annual school board walk-through.
During the walk-through, board members prioritized what improvements or renovations were needed or could wait for a later date based on current conditions.
As a result, the restrooms became a top priority due to their deplorable conditions.
Cafeteria
Western Line’s goal is to offer their students cafe-style dining facilities that captures the culture of the local community and school.
Once the renovations are completed, the new cafeterias will have decor of nutritional facts as well as school pride. Mottos and logos will be placed in the cafeteria to promote school pride. Also, each high school cafeteria in the district will have a special cafe-style area designated for seniors only.
The district is waiting on MDE’s approval to start the renovations of the cafeterias, which should begin any day.
Once renovations begin, they will be completed in two phases.
Phase 1 is painting all three cafeterias to match the new logos and designs, and phase 2 is installing custom decors and tables throughout the cafeteria.
“We feel like this project will give our students a dining facility that is more cozy and comfortable and it will also boost student morale and school pride throughout the community,” Hudson said.
