BATESVILLE — Greenville High School senior Jeanee Anderson scored 31 points to help lift her team to a 53-49 comeback victory over South Panola Friday night.
The Honeybees trailed by seven points going into the fourth quarter of its road game against the Lady Tigers, but locked down on defense and made one crucial stop after another as they came back to defeat the Lady Tigers 53-49.
“We were down, and I told them that they needed to step up their defense and make stops,” Greenville coach Dakedreon Lampkin said. “When you are down, a lot of people think you need to just keep scoring, but the most important thing you need to do is step up on defense.”
Anderson also finished with four rebounds, four assists and three steals. Junior Jakayla Williams added 12 points of her own.
Senior Quintaria McCray led the Honeybees with 10 rebounds. Senior Lazericka Rhodes contributed five rebounds.
With the win, the Honeybees locked up the No. 3 seed in the Class 6A-District-4 tournament which begins Tuesday in Starkville. Greenville’s will begin the four-team tournament against Starkville.
Coach Lampkin said the district tournament looks to be up for grabs as all four teams in the district have proven they can beat one another on any given night.
“Any one of us can be eliminated and any one of us can win the whole thing,” Coach Lampkin said.
The Honeybees end their regular season Tuesday night in a non-district game against Holmes Central.
