BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Delta State Football was picked to finish first by the GSC Coaches poll at the 2023 Gulf South Conference Media Day. The Statesmen are coming off a 2022 season in which they claimed their eighth conference title in program history.
The Statesmen were awarded 61 total points, including six first-place votes, with last year's co-champion West Florida tabbed second with 56 points and two first-place votes.
Football returns to Parker Field at McCool Stadium on September 16 with a Week 3 matchup against FCS opponent Mississippi Valley State, followed by the 2023Pig Pickin' the following week against conference foe Shorter. Delta State opens their season with two road games on Thursday, August 31 at Missouri S&T and Saturday, September 9 against new GSC member Chowan.
