Errick SImmons Jr., the Delta Democrat-Times’ Offensive Player of the Year, was a playmaker all season long for the Greenville High School football team.
If he wasn’t making a sensational catch on offense, he was returning a kick for a large gain to help energize his team. If he wasn’t leading his young teammates by example, he was encouraging others on the sidelines to keep fighting and to never give up.”
“He was a truly electrifying player for us, and we tried to get the ball in his hands as much as possible,” Greenville Head Coach Quintarus MCCray said.
And, just about every time Simmons had the ball in his hands he made the most of it.
Simmons led his Class 6A District in both receiving yards and total touchdowns this season. Simmons caught 51 catches this season for 1,074 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Simmons was excellent on special teams as well, returning kickoffs for more than 500 yards this season to help him finish the season with 1,931 yards.
“Our district is like the SEC of high school football, so for him to lead our district in both receiving yards and total yards is quite an accomplishment,” Coach McCray said.
Coach McCray said Simmons deserves all the credit for his great season because of how hard he worked on the offseason to improve as player.
“He became a much better player this season, and I believe he will be a great player in college as well,” Coach McCray said.
