ROSEDALE — Slowly but surely, teams around the Delta are starting to realize that the O’Bannon boys basketball team is legit.
The Greenwaves picked up their third straight victory on Thursday night with a 52-40 victory over the West Bolivar Eagles (4-9). O’Bannon won only five games last season, but after Thursday’s win their record now stands at 8-3. The Greenwaves have now won three straight games twice this season.
“I think people are starting to figure out that we are for real,” O’Bannon head coach Torrione Clark said.
Led by point guard Joshua Curtis, the team’s floor general, the Greenwaves controlled the game for much of the night Thursday. Whenever the Eagles made a run, O’Bannon had an answer.
Coach Carter said the credit to his team’s success is due to the hard work of all his players.
Octavia Wilson leads O’Bannon this season with more than 13 points per game. Curtis leads his team in assists and is also scoring 11.5 points per game.
Sophomore Daishun Scott is averaging more than 11 points and 13 rebounds per game.
Senior Zion Jessie and sophomore Donovan Lewis have also been stepping up in key moments for O’Bannon.
The Greenwaves will try to make it four wins in a row when they host Palmer Tuesday night.
“We still have some things to work on,” Coach Carter said. “We turn the ball over a little too much, but we are going to go out there and compete each day. Our goal is to go out and compete for a district title.”
