Throwing the distance: O'Bannon's Derion Dillard claims state title in the discus

O’Bannon High School’s Derion Dillard won the state championship in the Boys Discus at the MHSAA Class 2A State Championship in Pearl on Saturday. Dillard’s throw of 128 feet was seven feet father than his closest competion. Dillard also finished Dillard also finished third in the 110 meter hurdles.

Joey Beevers and Bobby Burton reel in top catch at Lake Ferguson

The team of Joey Beevers and Bobby Burton (pictured left) took first place at MRAA 2023 Summer Trail Tournament at Lake Ferguson on April 22. Joey and Bobby's 4-bass limit weighed 17.40 pounds.

Coming in a close second place was the team of Mike Jordan and Cliff Payne. Mike and Cliff's 4-bass limit weighed 17.19 pounds.

Simmons Blue Devil Aaliyah Esco wins two events at South State

Junior Aaliyah Esco had two first place finishes to lead the Simmons High School track team on Saturday at the MHSAA 1A South State Championship in Clinton.
Esco finished in first place in the girls 200 meter dash and first place in the girls 400 meter dash.

Washington School athletes shine at North State

The host Washington School varsity track team had a number of high performances at the MAIS 5A North State Track Meet on Saturday.
Madison Jones won first place in the triple jump and the 110 meter hurdles. Aubrey Jones took second place in the 110 meter hurdles.
